Exploring different subcultures
Ariana Deleon Mena
ENG 21002
My interviewees name is Enid she is 20 years old. Shes tall, caucasian, has light brown hair and hazel eyes. She was born here but her parents are both from Italy. So, she’s Italian. Her major is business. She is really outgoing; she likes to say it is because she’s Italian she is such a social and friendly person. Enid says her culture is full of food, music, art, traditions, and architecture. As I mentioned before Enid has been to Italy times growing up. She says that it has always been important for her mom and dad to teach them about their culture and to be part of it. Has AI affected the job market? AI has become popular around the world today. As we know, artificial intelligence has many positives and negatives. Artificial intelligence can create many new innovations that help people make their lives easier but that can result in laziness. Are people more losing their jobs or are people getting jobs because of artificial intelligence. Enid believes that the effect artificial intelligence has on the job market is both positive and negative. She says in Italy people believe that artificial intelligence is worthy cause it can create new jobs.
Enid told me about this article she read. “Italy’s Ai Strategy for 2024-2026: The Key Points”, The article is an “AI bill” that mains strategy is to pass it, so AI is used by the people of Italy to improve their daily lives. So that is why she believes artificial intelligence has a positive impact. She believes it has a negative impact because in the interview she mentions how she works in a retail store and how many things have changed due to artificial intelligence and not for the better. She also mentions how her friend that works at Target works and how there used to be many cashiers but now it is just self-check-out machines.
Enid believes her culture shaped her views and values on different things. For example, she says her Italian culture has an enormous influence on her outlook on traditions, family, and interests. Her religion also has influenced her decision which in Italy most of the population is Catholic. My Interviewee culture played a crucial role in her life. She says her values always help her make decisions. My Interviewee explains how her family and community are important, and these values affect her daily choices. She believes her hospitality and closeness towards people come from her culture. She is convinced that her experiences and beliefs have made her who she is today. My interviewee says that if parents have not taught her about her culture, she would be different, and she would not be able to relate to more people.
In conclusion this is how Enid’s culture and background influence her world view. And how close she is to her background, and her experiences she has had with her culture. And, although she was born in the U.S. her culture has always played a crucial role in her life. That has taught her to be kind, talkative and curious. And this is Enid’s opinion on whether artificial intelligence is affecting the job market.
Commentary

I disagree with Enid based on her point of view whether the job market is being affected artificial intelligence. Enid believes that the job market is being affected by ai negatively and positively. But the job market is being affected mostly negatively by artificial intelligence. The unemployment rate is high today, and artificial intelligence has a part in it. Yes, artificial intelligence has created jobs, but it has taken away more. Many people’s jobs have been taken, for example many companies like Google, IKEA, Duolingo, and many more have replaced their contractors or employees with Artificial Intelligence. I mention the topic before the interview before she prepares more. Through the interview I saw she felt better about her answers, and she understood what I was asking her. And I also told her there were not any right or wrong answers and helped her. Nothing like gender or age affected the way I approached this subject, since we are both females and the same age. But I do believe race may have affected it because Hispanics see artificial intelligence as more of a significant concern and the impact it can have, while Italians believe it is a new opportunity for better things. I tried to erase these differences by listening to her first and agreeing with her. Then I will ask questions like “Why do you believe that?” or “Do you think that …”. Making her feel seen and not attacking her because we both do not have the same opinion. Well, our interactions did change over time, Enid felt more comfortable when she asked me questions.
